Abstract

Beginning with the premise that the media sets itself up as a strategy of government, this article interrogates the cultural artifact “Guide to Early Childhood – learn about the secrets of Galinha Pintadinha to best take care of your children during their first six years of life.” The methodology utilized to formulate this study is characterized as a theoretical essay which looks to problematize, starting with Foucaultian discourse analysis and regimes of truth, the assumed assignments of characters from the cultural artifact and, with them, the educational modes of production and regulation of the family in texts whose target audiences are children. During the day-to-day experiences narrated by the Guide in the studied text, it is possible to observe the effects of mass media on family structures that reiterate the heterocentric and androcentric logic of family behavior.
