Abstract
From a postmodern perspective, the study seeks to discuss the polysemy which strains the concept of identity, making links to understand the identitary teacher constitution and its implication for teacher education. The identity can be understood as a process of being in the world, and every person is able to accept different identities at different times. As well as the subject´s identity is not monolithic, the identity of the teacher is also related to the multifaceted aspects that create multiple identities that differ from the notion of profile or professional role. The identity of teachers, then, can be considered a combination of his biography, cultural and social influences and institutional values, and also can change as the roles played and the circumstances.
