“MEETING ON SCHOOL POWER” AND THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO TEACHER DEVELOPMENT
Abstract
This arcticle reports on the evaluation of an event – “Encounters on School Power” – organized with purpose of offering continuing education to teachers in the city of Pelotas (RS) and region. The event has grown in size and importance over the years and presents a different character than that of the usual congress and seminars, aimed at teachers development, organized around lectures by prominent professionals and research presentation. The analyzed event focuses on the practices of teachers and managers, presented by them and discussed collectively in Presentation Boards. This arcticle is based on data collected in the ninth edition of the event, held in 2009, focusing on the visions of professionals who presented papers. The data collection instrument was the questionnaire, whose answers to the precoded questions were analyzed in terms of frequency. Answers to an open question were coded into categories and also analyzed by frequencies. The results were interpreted in the light of the ideas of Vygotski, Freire and their interlocutors and suggest that the event provoked in the teachers the development of awareness about their work – from reflection, evaluation and collaborative discussions – as well as empowerment, by evaluing their practices.
