EDUCATIONAL LEGISLATION FOR PRISON
Abstract
The Brazilian penitentiary system hás not been able to satisfactorily achieve the resocialization of persons deprived of their liberty. In this respect, education has emerged as a possibility, although presenting itself also as a paradoxical dilemma in Brazilian prisons. The objective of this study is to discuss the guarantees that prisoners have, supported by Brazilian normative texts, to receive education education within the penitentiary system. It can be seen that there are several legal provisions which ensure education in prisons, however, the lack of sound management to make effective provision of quality education entails a distance between Standards and their implementation. This paradox distances the prisoner from a citizen’s life.
