THE CENTENNIAL OF PAULO FREIRE AND THE RECONTEXTUALIZATION OF POPULAR EDUCATION
possibilities of a situated pedagogy
Abstract
In the context of the celebration of the centennial of Paulo Freire’s birth, it is interesting to revisit his work in the sense of readings that can subsidize our educational actions today. The theme of this work is Popular Education
thought in perspective and in its different historical contexts, focusing on the scenario of the 1990s and the theoretical debates on its revival or re-founding, as well as the new political and epistemological demands, with theoretical and conceptual developments, observed based on the Brazilian political environment after 2016. By means of bibliographical research, we revisit authors of reference in the field and support the argument that the actuality of Popular Education practices responds to the current conversational offensive in Brazil, reaffirming the social project against oppressions and social inequalities. The recontextualization discussed suggests its actuality in the construction of “networks of indignation and hope” from a situated pedagogical practice.
