THE BRAZILIAN SIGN LANGUAGE IN THE UNDERGRADUATE SCENARIO
Abstract
This research took the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) as the object of study and aimed at identifying if and how it has been offered as a curricular component in universities. Inspired in Foucault Studies and using discourse as a methodological tool, it was based on a search on the electronic homepages of universities, looking for curriculum and syllabus. The surveyed data showed that all universities include Libras as mandatory curriculum component for undergraduate courses. From the analysis of the menus it can be concluded that they are heterogeneous, focusing on discussions about the linguistic aspects of Libras; the history of its constitution and the conceptions of deaf culture and identity. At the same time, discuss an inclusive emphasis on deaf education; enable conversational practices and introduce the SignWriting.
