THE BOOKS OF LITERATURE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS IN THE DIGITAL UNIVERSE
transformations, challenges and possibilities
Abstract
In this article, I present an overview of the main transformations that digital technologies have produced in books, in general, and, more specifically, in books for children and young adults. The discussion draws on the studies on the history of writing and reading carried out by the French historian Roger Chartier. Based on Chartier, I argue, initially, that digital technologies produce changes in the three dimensions that define the culture of the printed book, namely text, materiality and authorship. Next, I elaborate on how these changes occur in the specific field of children’s literature.
