Abstract

The purpose of this reflection is to discuss the phenomenon we denominated as institutionalization of low culture cycle in Brazilian Education. We used as source reference for this study the Brazilian teacher’s profiles by Gatti and Barreto (2009) along with the information from Gatti, Barreto and André (2011) which also concern the same profile. We used as theoretical support the Pierre Bourdieu´s studies, specially what concerns to cultural capital. Brazilian public schools cannot form a ‘cult’ citizen, because teachers and students cannot acquire equally cultural capital in primary socialization, secondary socialization and, perhaps, during their lives! The institutionalization of the low culture cycle in Brazilian public schools is undeniable. Schools produce this phenomenon and strengthen it. It is not only a pedagogic or didactic matter; it is a political issue for decent public authorities.
