CULTURA VISUAL E MEMÓRIA GRÁFICA EM EX-LÍBRIS

Abstract

The ex-libris, as a graphic artifact that registers the
ownership of books, presents visual, linguistic and/
or iconic signs, which are sometimes endowed with
artistic qualities. And above all, the materiality,
form and content of this object are memory traces,
since they represent cultural practices, consump
-
tion habits, social relations and lifestyles that oc
-
curred in a certain period. In this context, the aim
of this study is to identify and reflect on the graphic
memory from what the ex-libris technically pro
-
duces and conveys, developing a cataloging sheet.
To this end, a literature review was conducted on
topics related to graphic memory, visual culture
and ex-libris. As methodological procedures, the
ex-libris were found and photographed in collec
-
tions of rooms of the Bibliotheca Rio-Grandense.
Specimens that clearly presented their signs were
selected. The study shows that these artifacts are
memory supports and allow us to glimpse elements
of visual culture and graphic memory of several
peoples.
