OCUPAR AS RUAS

A festa como política descolonizante do direito à cidade

Abstract

Starting from the street party as a political act of occupying public space, this article discusses the notion of the right to the city as a concept that involves the playful agency of citizens in the constitution of subjective territorialities within the city amidst various affective dynamics, among which popular festivities that transcend the boundaries of the market and the state stand out. To do so, it problematizes the notion of the right to the city proposed by Henri Lefebvre, through its decolonization, accomplished through concepts put forth by Muniz Sodré in his work "O Terreiro e a Cidade" (The Courtyard and the City). This highlights the significant importance of street parties in promoting the right to the city in the sense of affirming processes of decolonization and democratization of our urban territories.
