Abandoned city echoes

Abstract

In this text, I present the actions of Salve Rainha and In.surge Collectives as agents of problematizations and contraventions of colonial-modern project and the discourse of modernization in the city of Teresina (PI). While the structure of colonial-modernity established the pattern of being and living from the capitalist logic, anchored in the discourse of progress and development, the fractures of this discourse are experienced by excluded, marginalized and abandoned people in social hierarchy. From a critical discursive analysis, the interviewees' narratives revealed the action of Teresina's collectives to making visible and valuing heritage and cultural aspects of the city, deliberately abandoned by the local public administration. The contradictions of modernizing discourse comes up when, beyond the peripheries, there has been a generalized neglect of public policies in Teresina, suggesting that urban management has acquired new format with the bolsonarism’ far-right.
